CHERRAPUNJEE & SHILLONG

01 : Arrive Guwahati 

Meeting and assistance on arrival and visit the most important Hindu pilgrim site and a major religious landmark of the city – Kamakhya Temple built in reverence of Goddess Kamakhya or Sati one of the various incarnations of Goddess Durga or Goddess Shakti.  

 

Guwahati -  Cherrapunjee (160 kms / 05 hrs)

After visiting the Temple drive to Cherrapunjee and on arrival check into the hotel.

 

Cherrapunjee, also known as Sohra, is a high-altitude town in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. It's known for its living root bridges, made from rubber trees. 

 

To the northeast, Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point overlooks verdant gorges. In the surrounding hills, the Noh-Kalikai, Dain-Thlen and Kynrem waterfalls plunge from forested clifftops. South of town, Mawsmai Cave is illuminated to show its stalagmites.

02 :  Cherrapunjee

After breakfast visit Seven Sisters Waterfalls, Nahkhalikai Falls, Dainthlen Falls, Thangkharang Park and Mwasmai Cave – only a distance of 150 meters is open for tourists, while the other section is closed. 

 

The stalactites and stalagmites caves have innumerable forms, shapes and sizes inside leaving one to imagine as many life forms as possible. This magnificent natural wonder is the handiwork of years of natural abrasion and underground water. Kho Ramhah Rock or Motrop to see a single gigantic cone shaped rock formation and Arwah cave.

03 : Cherrapunjee – Mawllynong & Dawki – Shillong (90 kms / 3 hrs)

After breakfast same day excursion to Mawllynong and Dawki.

 

Mawlynnong Village located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, also referred as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia in 2003. The village offers picturesque natural beauty, a trek to the living root bridge at a neighboring village Riwai. The village also offers a sight of natural balancing rock, a strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock.

Lunch to be at Mawlynnong as there is not a decent place to eat in Dawki and even the ones available at Mawlynnong offers basic food.

 

Later visit Dawki, the Bangladesh Border (Tamabil Border from Bangladesh side). Main attraction is the Umngot river with crystal clear water. You can enjoy a long boat ride there. Reach Shillong by late evening.

04 : Shillong

After breakfast visit some of the Mawphlang Sacred Forest – these forest are the where the Khasi customs and traditions have been woven into the land and the forests. Later visit Don Bosco Museum, Wards Lake and the Archery Field to witness the famous Traditional Archery Game of Meghalaya (Sunday closed and starts around 4 PM) also stroll around Police Bazaar area – Shillong’s prime location.

05 : Shillong – day trip to Jowai (65 kms / 3 hrs)

After breakfast drive to Jowai. At Jowai visit Krang Suri waterfall -  it is the most magical waterfall you can lay your eyes on. Krang Suri is cut off from the tourist circuit.  

 

Located in the Jaintia hills, Krang Suri is blessed with shimmering blue waters and sparkling sunlight. This heady mixture of nature is sometimes known to create a rainbow. It's truly a magical pool in nature's wonderland. 

 

After that visit Laitlum Perched in the East Khasi Hills of Shillong, Laitlum Canyons is a little-explored haunt of the mountainous state of Meghalaya. Laitlum translates to ‘end of hills’ and this sublimely beautiful hilltop appears to be true to its name.

 

At Laitlum, all one can see are breathtaking gorges and steep winding stairways that snake their way down to the lush valley.

06 : Shillong – Guwahati (120 kms / 2 ½ hrs)

After breakfast check out from the hotel and transfer to Guwahati Airport to board a flight for onward destination.

SHILLONG- MEGHALAYA

01: Arrive Guwahati and drive to Shillong (115kms/03 ½ Hrs)

Meeting and assistance on arrival and driving to Shillong. On arrival check-in at the hotel.

02 : Shillong – Cherrapunjee - Shillong

After breakfast we shall proceed for a day trip to Cherrapunjee. Visit Seven Sisters Waterfalls, Wei Saudong falls, Nohkhalikai Falls, Dainthlen Falls, Thangkharang Park, Kho Ramhah Rock or Motrop to see a single gigantic cone shaped rock formation and Arwah cave.

03 : Shillong - Mawlynnong - Dawki (Excursion) (192 Kms/06 ½ Hrs)

After breakfast drive towards Mawlynnong Village. Mawlynnong Village located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, also referred as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia in 2003.

 

 

The village known for its cleanliness is located around 90 kms from Shillong and is a community based ecotourism initiative. The community has made a collective effort to maintain the ambience of a clean village. The village offers picturesque natural beauty, a trek to the living Root bridge at a neighboring village Riwai. The village also offers a sight of natural balancing rock, a strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. Later on a short trek to the Living Root Bridge (30 minutes) and explore the village. Also visit Dawki (Indo-Bangladesh border), one can enjoy boat ride at crystal clear water of Umngot river (boat ride on direct payment). 

 

Evening drive back to Shillong & overnight stay.

 

04: Shillong - Guwahati ( 100 Kms/03 Hrs)

After breakfast visit Ward Lake ( tue closed), Lady Hydari Park ( mon closed), Cathedral Church and Don Bosco Museum ( Sun closed) Later drive to Guwahati and on arrival check-in at the hotel.

05. Guwahati 

After breakfast visit Basistha Temple, Bhimashankar Temple, Balaji Temple, Kamakhya Temple, Umananda temple - situated in peacock island, Nabagraha Temple. 


 

Evening go for sunset/sundown cruise.

06. Depart Guwahati

After breakfast transfer to Guwahati Airport (37 Kms/01 ½ Hrs) to board flight for onward destination.

01 : Arrive Guwahati – Drive to Kaziranga National  Park (236 Kms/05 Hrs)

Meeting and assistance on arrival and drive to Kaziranga National Park - an UNESCO World Heritage site and home of the World famous One horned Rhino.  On arrival check-in at the hotel.

02 : Kaziranga - Shillong (279  Kms/06 Hrs)

Morning Jeep Safari at the Nationalpark.   Later drive to Shillong and on arrival checked-in at the hotel.

03 : Shillong – Jowai Excursion (185 Kms/05 ½ Hrs)

After breakfast proceed for a day trip to Jowai enroute visit to Laitlum Canyon. Be witness to the Nartiang Monoliths, a cluster of monoliths which stand as a testimony of Jaintia rulers’ strength. Also visit the Nartiang Durga Temple, a 500-year-old Mandir. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hindu Mythology. Also witness the Krang Suri Falls for breath-taking views. 

 

Evening return to Shillong for overnight stay

 

04 : Shillong –  Dawki (03 Hrs) - Cherrapunjee (60 Kms/02 Hrs)

After breakfast, proceed to Dawki (Indo-Bangladesh Border) and Mawlynnong Village.  Dawki, visit Indo-Bangladesh border and Umngot River (one can enjoy country boat rides here on direct payment basis). 


After visiting Dawki, drive to  the Mwallynnong village.

06 : Cherrapunjee – Guwahati Airport (165 Kms/05 Hrs)

After breakfast drive to Guwahati Airport to board a flight for an onward destination.

08 NIGHTS – 09  DAYS NORTH EAST PROGRAM GUWAHATI - BHALUKPONG - DIRANG - TWANG - BOMDILA - TEZPUR

01 : Arrive Guwahati to Bhalukpong (250 Kms/05 Hrs)

Meeting and assistance on arrival and drive to Bhalukpung. Bhalukpunj is a small town located along the southern reaches of the Himalayas in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Fish angling and river rafting are the principal tourist activities in Bhalukpung. Tourist attractions in Bhalukpung include the Tipi Orchidariurm, thich hosts over 2600 cultivated orchids from 80 different spices.

02 : Bhalukpong – Dirag (150 Kms/03 ½ Hrs)

After breakfast visit to the Tipi Orchidariurm in Bhalukpung and continue drive to Dirang. En route visit Nag Temple. Upon arrival visit Dirang Monastery, hot water spring. Dirang is an almost picture-perfect Tibetan – Monpa stone village marred only by the main road. Above the picturesque stone house rises a steep rocky hill topped with Old Dirangs Gompa and several walls.

03 : Dirang – Sangti Valley Excursion (30 Kms/01 Hr)

After breakfast, set out to explore Dirang. Visit Dirang Monpa tribal villages, experience the

Locale flavor – head out on village walks and interact with local villagers to enhance your experience. Then proceed to Sangti Valley, situated along the shores of Sangti River, 25 Kms from Bomdila. The  Sangti Valley is one of the seasonal homes of the majestic creature called the black-necked crane that flies across from China and perhaps Leh. Later visit the The National Research Centre on Yak is located above the main town. The centre also has a Yak National Research Centre of Yak firm at Nyukmandung about 31 Kms from Dirang. You can also visit Apple orchard & Kiwi Farm (depending upon season), Li-ungGonpa and Kalachakra Monastery right into its laps. Dirang is also famous for hot water springs where people take bath to cure skin ailments.

04 : Dirang – Tawang (140 Kms/05 Hrs)

After breakfast drive to Tawang en route witness the snow capped Sella Pass at 14000 Ft ane the Jaswant Garh War Memorial (Legend has it that Jaswant – Mahavir Chakra Awardee – Posthumou- of 04th Battalion Garhwal Rifles), fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place. Tawang is situated at an altitude of 3500m. The natural beauty and solitude of Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, Tawang Chu River and Tawang Valley are mesmerizing. The inhabitants of the districts are all Monpa tribes except Shyo village which is dominated by people of Tibetan Origin.

05 : Tawang 

After breakfast proceed for sightseeing of 400 Yrs (17th Century) Old Tawang Monastery which is the second largest monastery in the world after Potala Palace in Tibet  The building is about 113 feet long and 80 ft vide and houses valuable antiquities, books and manuscripts – handwritten and printed. Later visit Tawang War memorial, a 40 foot high multi-hued memorial, has a structure constructed in stupa design. Dedicated to the martyrs of Sino-Indo War held in 1962, this memorial is nestled among beautiful peaks, which overlooks the Tawang-Chu Valley. Rest of the day free to stroll round the streets of the town.

06 : Tawang – Bumla Pass & Madhuri Lake excursion (110 Kms/05 Hrs)

After breakfast, you will drive to visit a high altitude lake called Shonga-tser Lake, popularly known as Madhuri Lake located 35 Kms away from Tawang near the China Border (Bumla Pass). The drive to Sangetsar Lake is full of thrill and one can still see the war bankers that had been used during the Chinese aggression in 1962. You can drive further to Bumla Pass which is located about 37 Kms away from Tawang at the Indo-China border over 15,200 ft above sea level (Visit is subject to permission from Indian Army. Special permits are issued at DC Office, Tawang).

07 : Tawang – Bomdila (180 Kms/06 Hrs)

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Bomdila. Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district located at the height of 8500 ft above the sea level. It has a lot of attractions for the tourists with its cool climate, Apple orchards (subjected to blooming Season), artistic people, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and Buddhist Gompas. The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is the repository of culture. Explore the town in the afternoon.

 08 : Bomdila – Tezpur (160Kms/04 Hrs)

After breakfast drive to Tezpur en route visiting Tippi Water Fall. On arrival visit Mahabhairab Temple, Cole Park and Agnigarh Hill.

09 : Tezpur – Guwahati Airport drop (195 Kms/05 Hrs)

After breakfast  transfer to Guwahati Airport to board flight for onward destination.
